About
Fruit Bats is an American indie rock band formed in 1997 in Chicago, Illinois, as the project of singer and songwriter Eric D. Johnson, its sole permanent member, with other musicians joining in live and studio settings. Perishable Records released Echolocation in 2001, and after signing to Sub Pop in 2002 came Mouthfuls, whose closing track "When U Love Somebody" became a signature song, then Spelled in Bones, The Ruminant Band and Tripper. Johnson dissolved the band in 2013, revived it in 2015 and signed to Merge Records in 2018, releasing Gold Past Life, The Pet Parade and A River Running to Your Heart. The Landfill, a June 12, 2026 album from Merge, was cut with his band of David Dawda, Josh Mease, Frank LoCrasto and Kosta Galanopoulos at Washington's Bear Creek Studios.
