The Basement East is a live-music venue in the East Nashville neighbourhood of Nashville, Tennessee, the larger sibling of the original Basement club and nicknamed 'The Beast'. Destroyed by the tornado that struck Nashville in March 2020, it was rebuilt on its Woodland Street site and continues to showcase touring and local acts. Fruit Bats is the long-running folk-rock project of Eric D. Johnson, whose warm, melodic albums have been a Sub Pop and Merge staple since 2001.
