A nightclub and concert venue at 125 East 11th Street in the East Village, Manhattan, and one of New York's most historically significant event halls — built in 1886 as a hall for hire and recognised as the first modern nightclub. The current incarnation opened in 1992 with a capacity of 1,400. The city's Landmarks Preservation Commission designated the building on 18 March 2008. Fruit Bats is the long-running folk-rock project of Eric D. Johnson, whose warm, melodic albums have been a Sub Pop and Merge staple since 2001.
