The room
The Belasco is a music venue in a 1926 theatre building at 1050 South Hill Street, on the corner of 11th and Hill in Downtown Los Angeles. The oil pioneer Edward L. Doheny commissioned it alongside the neighbouring Mayan Theater, and the local firm Morgan, Walls & Clements designed it in the Churrigueresque style; it was named after the New York playwright David Belasco and opened in November 1926 with the play Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Its last film screening was in June 1950, after which the building served as a church and then stood without regular use for more than two decades before reopening as The Belasco on 19 March 2011. Live Nation has operated it since 2020, and the venue's own private-events page lists four event spaces: the Chapel, the Chamber, the Confessional and the Sanctuary.
