About
Bikini Kill formed in Olympia, Washington in October 1990 — Kathleen Hanna singing and writing, Billy Karren on guitar, Kathi Wilcox on bass and Tobi Vail on drums — and pioneered the riot grrrl movement with feminist lyrics and fiery, abrasive, hardcore-influenced performances. After five major releases, they disbanded in 1997. They reunited briefly in 2017 and on a more permanent basis from 2019, with various musicians in place of Karren.
