The Wiltern Theatre occupies the base of the Pellissier Building, a 12-storey Art Deco landmark set diagonally to the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Western Avenue in Los Angeles and clad in blue-green glazed terracotta. The complex is considered one of the finest examples of Art Deco architecture in the United States. The building is privately owned; the theatre is operated by Live Nation. Bikini Kill formed in Olympia, Washington in October 1990 — Kathleen Hanna singing and writing, Billy Karren on guitar, Kathi Wilcox on bass and Tobi Vail on drums — and pioneered the riot grrrl movement with feminist lyrics and fiery, abrasive, hardcore-influenced performances.
