A music venue at 1026 Spring Garden Street in the Callowhill neighbourhood of Philadelphia, opened on 21 September 2011 as a joint venture between The Bowery Presents and the independent Philadelphia promoter R5 Productions. The 1889 building still carries signage for its first tenant, the Spring Garden Farmer's Market, and housed the Union Transfer Baggage Express Co. from 1918 to 1942. It programmes bands, comedy and other live performance. Bikini Kill formed in Olympia, Washington in October 1990 — Kathleen Hanna singing and writing, Billy Karren on guitar, Kathi Wilcox on bass and Tobi Vail on drums — and pioneered the riot grrrl movement with feminist lyrics and fiery, abrasive, hardcore-influenced performances.
