The Powerstation is a music venue in Eden Terrace, Auckland, and one of the few small live rooms of its kind left in New Zealand. The building has housed music venues in various forms since the 1950s. Del Amitri formed in Glasgow in 1980 around songwriter Justin Currie, whose account of the name is refreshingly unromantic: a corruption of "Dimitri", half-remembered from a film's closing credits in 1979, and emphatically not Greek for "from the womb".
