The Great Hall is the main concert hall inside Cardiff University Students' Union in Cardiff, Wales, and one of the city's principal mid-sized live-music rooms, hosting touring bands alongside student events. Del Amitri formed in Glasgow in 1980 around songwriter Justin Currie, whose account of the name is refreshingly unromantic: a corruption of "Dimitri", half-remembered from a film's closing credits in 1979, and emphatically not Greek for "from the womb".
