The old Town and Country Club, now the city's main mid-size Academy room — a reliable Leeds stop for bands at the point where clubs stop being big enough and arenas are still a way off. Del Amitri formed in Glasgow in 1980 around songwriter Justin Currie, whose account of the name is refreshingly unromantic: a corruption of "Dimitri", half-remembered from a film's closing credits in 1979, and emphatically not Greek for "from the womb".
