The Oval Hall is the main auditorium of Sheffield City Hall, a Grade II*-listed neo-classical building on Barker's Pool in central Sheffield that opened in 1932 to a design by E. Vincent Harris. Seating 2,271, it is the city's principal concert hall and houses the Grand Willis III organ, the largest in Sheffield. Del Amitri formed in Glasgow in 1980 around songwriter Justin Currie, whose account of the name is refreshingly unromantic: a corruption of "Dimitri", half-remembered from a film's closing credits in 1979, and emphatically not Greek for "from the womb".
