A concert hall in the centre of Nottingham, owned by the city council and part of a complex that also contains the Theatre Royal. Its markedly modern architecture has become a city landmark, facing the more recently built Cornerhouse. Del Amitri formed in Glasgow in 1980 around songwriter Justin Currie, whose account of the name is refreshingly unromantic: a corruption of "Dimitri", half-remembered from a film's closing credits in 1979, and emphatically not Greek for "from the womb".
