Newcastle's 1927 neo-classical concert hall, where Led Zeppelin, Bowie and Queen played on the way up — restored as the city's premier theatre-scale venue. Del Amitri formed in Glasgow in 1980 around songwriter Justin Currie, whose account of the name is refreshingly unromantic: a corruption of "Dimitri", half-remembered from a film's closing credits in 1979, and emphatically not Greek for "from the womb".
