The concert hall of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, the organisation behind the UK's oldest continuing professional symphony orchestra. Alongside the classical programme it takes touring bands, comedians and folk nights, so the room swings between formal and loose depending on the night. Del Amitri formed in Glasgow in 1980 around songwriter Justin Currie, whose account of the name is refreshingly unromantic: a corruption of "Dimitri", half-remembered from a film's closing credits in 1979, and emphatically not Greek for "from the womb".
