Caird Hall is a 2,300-seat concert auditorium on City Square in Dundee, Scotland, opened in 1923 and a Category A listed building. Its columned frontage dominates the city's central square, and it hosts orchestral concerts and touring acts. Del Amitri formed in Glasgow in 1980 around songwriter Justin Currie, whose account of the name is refreshingly unromantic: a corruption of "Dimitri", half-remembered from a film's closing credits in 1979, and emphatically not Greek for "from the womb".
