Journey are an American rock band formed in San Francisco in 1973 by former members of Santana and other Bay Area groups. Working in an arena-rock and hard-rock vein, they reached their commercial peak between 1978 and 1987 with Steve Perry on lead vocals. The 1981 album Escape topped the Billboard 200 and its 1983 follow-up Frontiers reached number two, while singles like 'Don't Stop Believin'', 'Open Arms' and 'Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)' became staples. 'Don't Stop Believin'' went on to become one of the best-selling digital tracks in US history, and the band's 1988 Greatest Hits compilation has sold over 15 million copies. Journey were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017. Live, they remain a top-grossing touring act built on soaring, anthemic sing-alongs.

Ticketmaster bills the Calgary date — like every Canadian night of the Final Frontier Tour — as "Final Frontier Tour (An Evening With)", which is the industry's way of saying the headliner has the stage to itself all night. Same at Rogers Place in Edmonton, SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon and Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg, all ticketed for 7.30pm.
