Band on the Wall

Band on the Wall is a live music venue and registered charity at 25 Swan Street, between Manchester's Northern Quarter and New Cross, a three-minute walk from the Shudehill Metrolink stop. The pub on the site was the George and Dragon, and it took its name from the small stage high up on the wall that landlord Ernie Tyson installed for musicians in 1937. The room has hosted jazz legends and helped shape the city's post-punk scene, and today it programmes artists from around the world in a main room that holds 500 standing and is equipped with a Steinway B grand piano. Band on the Wall was named Inspirational Venue of the Year (Under 2,000 Capacity) in 2024, and its World of Music programme runs sessions for children, young people, adults and families through the week.
