Social Distortion are an American punk rock band formed in Fullerton, California, in 1978 by Mike Ness, who remains the only constant member of a much-changed line-up. They emerged from the Orange County hardcore scene of the late 1970s alongside Agent Orange and the Adolescents, and returned from a mid-1980s hiatus with a sound drawing on country, blues and early rock and roll. Mommy's Little Monster (1983) and Prison Bound (1988) preceded a contract with Epic Records, and the self-titled 1990 album carried "Ball and Chain", "Story of My Life" and a cover of Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" to gold certification. Born to Kill followed in 2026.
