About
Rush are a Canadian rock band formed in Toronto in 1968. Their classic power trio line-up — bassist and vocalist Geddy Lee, guitarist Alex Lifeson and drummer Neil Peart, who joined in July 1974 — remained stable until 2015. Known for virtuosic musicianship, complex compositions and lyrics drawn from science fiction, fantasy and philosophy, they moved from blues-inspired hard rock into progressive rock, then a period in the 1980s marked by heavy use of synthesizers, before returning to guitar-driven rock. Industry sources estimate worldwide sales at over 43 million albums; the band won ten Juno Awards and entered the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013. Peart died in 2020, and Lee and Lifeson reformed Rush for a 2026–2027 tour with Anika Nilles on drums and Loren Gold on keyboards.
