About
Public Image Ltd, stylised PiL, are an English post-punk band formed in London in June 1978 by John Lydon after leaving the Sex Pistols, with guitarist Keith Levene, bassist Jah Wobble and drummer Jim Walker. The line-up has changed often and Lydon has been the sole constant member; the band counts 5 UK Top 20 singles and 5 UK Top 20 albums, and Metal Box (1979) is often regarded as one of the most important albums of the post-punk era. Lydon reactivated PiL in 2009, releasing This is PiL (2012), What The World Needs Now… (2015) and End of World (2023). The live album Alive followed in 2026, and Lydon, Lu Edmonds, Scott Firth and drummer Mark Roberts, who joined in 2025, play their first Australasian tour since 2013 in January 2027.
