Bill Graham's psychedelic ballroom, the epicentre of 1960s San Francisco where the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix defined an era. The chandeliers, apple barrels and poster tradition survive. Public Image Ltd is John Lydon's post-Sex Pistols vehicle, whose dub-scarred Metal Box invented post-punk's future in 1979.
