Placebo formed in London in 1994 around Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal, the two constants through three full-time drummers. "Nancy Boy" made them known in 1997, its gender-bending content setting them apart from the Britpop bands around them, as did Molko's voice and lyrics that openly discussed sexuality, mental health and drug use. Without You I'm Nothing broke them internationally in 1998, going platinum in the UK and gold in France and yielding "Pure Morning", "You Don't Care About Us" and "Every You Every Me". Since Steve Forrest left in 2015 they have officially been a duo, augmented by studio and live musicians.
