L7 were founded in Los Angeles in 1985, were active until 2001 and re-formed in 2014; Suzi Gardner, Donita Sparks and Dee Plakas make up the current line-up. "Pretend We're Dead" was heavily played on United States alternative radio and entered the top 10 of the Billboard Modern Rock chart in 1992. Their sound and image put them alongside grunge and, as an all-female band, alongside riot grrrl, though they preceded and sit outside both. Seven studio albums and wide touring across the United States, Europe, Japan, Australia and South America; they formed Rock for Choice in 1991, and the documentary L7: Pretend We're Dead premiered in 2016.
