Godsmack formed in Lawrence, Massachusetts in 1995 and now consists of lead singer and rhythm guitarist Sully Erna, bassist Robbie Merrill and lead guitarist Sam Koltun. Three consecutive albums — Faceless, IV and The Oracle — went to number one on the Billboard 200, and across nine studio albums the band has had 25 top-ten rock radio hits, twelve of them at number one. They have toured with Ozzfest more than once and headline their own arena runs. On the release of 1000hp, Mayor Marty Walsh declared August 6 Godsmack Day in the city of Boston. Lighting Up the Sky, from 2023, is their most recent album.
