The room
The Empty Bottle is an independent music venue and bar at 1035 North Western Avenue, at the corner of Cortez Street in Chicago's Ukrainian Village. Bruce Finkelman opened the original bar near Western and Walton in 1992 and moved the business several blocks north to this room in 1993, and the 400-capacity club spent the decade as a hub for underground rock, post-punk and experimental music, presenting early appearances by The White Stripes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and LCD Soundsystem. It books rock, punk, metal, hip-hop, electronic, jazz and experimental performers; its long-running Free Monday series drops the cover charge on selected shows, and it stages Music Frozen Dancing, a free outdoor winter concert held outside the club. Country band The Hoyle Brothers hold a weekly Friday-evening residency — twelve of them between 18 September and 11 December 2026 — and the rest of the calendar runs to indie, alternative and experimental rock, with Horse Jumper of Love over two nights, Sweeping Promises, Delicate Steve, Omni and Agriculture all booked. The bar opens at 5pm daily, Pizza Friendly Pizza is next door, and the Empty Bottle is part of the Chicago group 16" on Center.
