Barrowland Ballroom

The Barrowland Ballroom is a 1,900-capacity dance hall and concert venue in Glasgow's Calton district, a weatherproof hall sitting above the street-level halls used for the Barrowland weekend markets, with a large animated neon sign across the front of the building. It opened in 1934, built by Maggie McIver, was largely destroyed by fire in 1958 and reopened on 24 December 1960, and has worked as a concert room since 1983, when Simple Minds filmed the video for “Waterfront” there. The venue credits its acoustics to a barrel-shaped ceiling of acoustic tiles above the sprung dance floor.
