The Molotovs are siblings Mathew and Issey Cartlidge, from London, who formed the band in 2020 as The Mocktales and renamed it for the cocktail and, as Mathew put it, their rebellious energy. With venues shut, they played their first gigs on streets and in parks, which also got them round the age restrictions of some clubs. They had passed 500 gigs by January 2025, opening for The Libertines, Blondie, Iggy Pop and The Damned; the day before their debut single they opened for the Sex Pistols at the Royal Albert Hall. Wasted on Youth, the debut album, reached number three.
