About
The Longest Johns are an a cappella folk group from Bristol, England, formed in 2012 after members sang together at a friend's barbecue. Specialising in sea shanties and traditional English maritime songs alongside their own compositions, the trio of Andy Yates, Jonathan Darley and Robbie Sattin built a following through YouTube before achieving unexpected global fame. Their rendition of "Wellerman," from the 2018 album Between Wind and Water, became a viral TikTok phenomenon in early 2021 and has since been streamed tens of millions of times. That success led to a deal with Decca Records, though they later returned to releasing music independently. Known for rousing, harmony-rich sing-alongs, the group has taken its maritime repertoire to major festivals and won over crowds far beyond the folk circuit.
