Santana is an American rock band formed in San Francisco, California, in 1966 by Mexican-American guitarist Carlos Santana, who has been its only consistent member. After signing to Columbia Records, the band's appearance at the Woodstock Festival in 1969 raised its profile, and it recorded its debut album, Santana, in San Francisco in May 1969. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, and its eighteenth album, Supernatural (1999), reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and produced the Hot 100 number-one singles "Smooth" and "Maria Maria", winning eight Grammy Awards and three Latin Grammy Awards.
