About
Rick Wakeman is an English keyboardist and composer, born in Perivale in 1949 and raised in West London, best known for his tenures with the progressive rock band Yes and a solo career spanning six decades. He quit the Royal College of Music in 1969 for session work on David Bowie's "Life on Mars?" and Cat Stevens' "Morning Has Broken", and joined Yes in 1971 for Fragile and Close to the Edge. The concept albums The Six Wives of Henry VIII, Journey to the Centre of the Earth and The Myths and Legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table followed; his flamboyant stage presence and trademark capes made him an iconic figure in 1970s progressive rock. Appointed CBE in 2021, he tours the UK in 2027 with the English Rock Ensemble as The Wizard of Prog.
