A concert hall on Colston Street in central Bristol, owned by Bristol City Council and managed since 2011 by the Bristol Music Trust. It opened on 20 September 1867 to a Bristol Byzantine design by the local firm Foster & Wood, drew classical music and theatre, filled with wrestling crowds in the mid-20th century, and became one of the most important rock venues in Britain in the late 1960s. Fires gutted it in 1898 and again in 1945, though the original foyer survived both, and it was Grade II listed in 1966. It was named after Edward Colston, the merchant and slave trader whose school had stood on the site, and was renamed after years of campaigning — a decision brought forward in September 2020 following that summer's anti-racism protests in Bristol. The hall closed in 2018 for repair and refurbishment and reopened on 30 November 2023. Rick Wakeman is the caped keyboard wizard of Yes whose solo epics like The Six Wives of Henry VIII defined progressive rock excess — and whose wit made him a broadcasting favourite.

Is Bristol Beacon the same place as the O2 Academy?
No — they are two separate venues a few minutes apart. Bristol Beacon is on Trenchard Street, BS1 5AR; the O2 Academy is on Frogmore Street, BS1 5NA. They are close enough that the O2 Academy sends drivers to the 24-hour Trenchard Street car park, which has lift access up to Frogmore Street, so the postcodes are the reliable way to tell which one your ticket means.
Which room at Bristol Beacon is my gig in?
Beacon Hall is the main auditorium; Lantern Hall and the Weston Stage are the smaller rooms. The Beacon also programmes shows at partner venues elsewhere in the city rather than only in its own building, so some listings under its name are at another room entirely — read the room on the listing, not just the venue.
What time do the bars open at Bristol Beacon?
The Golding Bar opens roughly 60 minutes before the advertised doors time for your event. The Bridgehouse and Simons' bars open about 30 minutes before doors. All three are event-only, so they are not somewhere to meet on a night with nothing on.

Yes. Colonnade is the restaurant, serving lunch Tuesday to Sunday from 12:00 and evenings Monday to Saturday from 16:30.
