Manning House
The room
Manning Bar is a live entertainment venue on Level 2 of Manning House, on Manning Road inside the University of Sydney's Camperdown campus, owned and operated by the University of Sydney Union. It opened in 1974, and the USU publishes its capacity as a ladder: 950 in the main room, 1,150 with the balcony, 2,050 with the front and back courtyards, and 3,400 in a multi-stage set-up. The venue's own history of the room names Paul Kelly in 1979, INXS in 1980, Gotye in 2007, The Black Keys in 2008, Tame Impala in 2009 and Foo Fighters in 2011 among the acts that have played it, and Manning Bar still hosts the University of Sydney Battle of the Bands, won in 2006 by Cloud Control. Its Manning Open Air season runs house and techno nights on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from October through March, with line-ups that have included Honey Dijon and Nina Kraviz.
