Die Boer is a restaurant-teater at 6 Chenoweth Street in Durbanville, Cape Town, which puts a show on its stage almost every night of the week. It describes itself as a dinner-theatre with limited seating: guests sit at tables in the restaurant in front of the stage and are expected to order something from the menu, even if only a starter. It is co-owned by the actress Margit Meyer-Rödenbeck, who has toured South Africa as her alter ego Dowwe Dolla and took a master's degree in theatre management at Stellenbosch, and her husband Jurgen Human, a former SABC television systems engineer who built systems for Olympic, football, rugby and cricket world-cup broadcasts and used his travels to visit restaurant-theatres and blues clubs while planning a room of his own; in April 2025 the venue marked twenty years. Doors open at 18:00 for an evening show, which starts at 20:30, and at 11:30 for a lunchtime one at 14:00, with last food orders at 19:30. The bill leans two ways at once — stand-up comedy and Afrikaans music, with Schalk Bezuidenhout, Francois van Coke, Joshua na die Reën, Jan Blohm and Albert Frost among the more than sixty dates on sale between mid-September and 19 December 2026 — and rock, blues, gospel, reggae and country nights in between. Bookings are taken by phone during office hours or by email.
