The room

Bush Hall is an independent, grassroots music venue in Shepherd's Bush, West London. Built in 1904 as an Edwardian dance hall — and used over the years as a soup kitchen, bingo hall and social club — it was restored as a music venue in 2001. The intimate ~400-capacity room has hosted some of the biggest names in music.

Frequently Googled

What is Bush Hall's capacity?

450 standing and 280 seated — the venue's own figures. It is an ornate Edwardian dance hall on Uxbridge Road in Shepherd's Bush, restored as a live-music room in 2001, and it feels smaller than either number suggests.

Is Bush Hall seated or standing?

It depends on the show, and your ticket already says which: General Admission means standing, unreserved seating means seated. The room takes 450 standing and 280 seated. If a gig is standing and you need a seat, email notes@bushhallmusic.co.uk and they will reserve you one.

Can you leave Bush Hall and come back in?

No. There is no readmission once you have stepped out. You do not have to leave for a cigarette, though — the smoking area is the terrace upstairs, inside the building.

Does Bush Hall take cash?

No. Both bars are card only, contactless and Apple Pay included, and they do not take American Express. You cannot bring your own food or drink in either — there are bar snacks and that is it. If you need to bring something in for medical reasons, email notes@bushhallmusic.co.uk beforehand.

Is there parking near Bush Hall?

No car park of its own, but there is street parking around it, and Blue Badge holders can use the bay on Arminger Road right beside the venue. Watch for QPR home games — Loftus Road is close enough to change what is available. Taxis are best asked for at the bar and best met on the corner of Arminger Road and Uxbridge Road, outside the launderette.

What is the nearest tube station to Bush Hall?

Shepherd's Bush Market on the Hammersmith & City line — turn right out of the station and it is five minutes down Uxbridge Road. Shepherd's Bush on the Central line and the Overground is about fifteen minutes on foot across the Green. Buses 207, 260 and 283 stop within two minutes of the door.

Is Bush Hall wheelchair accessible?

Yes — the performance hall is entirely step-free, with level access from the street through the box office to the accessible toilet, the hall and the main bar. Personal assistants and support companions get in free: email notes@bushhallmusic.co.uk or ring 020 8222 6955 to go on the guest list. Ask when you book and they will also set up a viewing area at the side of the stage, or arrange early access or a queue jump.

What time do bands go on at Bush Hall?

There is no house rule — stage times change from gig to gig and Bush Hall publishes them on each event listing rather than site-wide, so check the show page before you set off. Refunds work the same way: the venue does not handle them, so go back to whoever sold you the ticket.

Why does Bush Hall look so ornate?

Because it was built as a dance hall in 1904 — one of three a publisher put up, one for each of his daughters, and the only one still standing. Since then it has been a wartime soup kitchen, a bingo hall, a rehearsal room for The Who, Adam Faith and Cliff Richard, and a snooker and social club. Charlie Raworth and Emma Hutchinson restored it as a music venue in 2001, putting back six chandeliers and uncovering the plaster cherubs.
