About The Chicago Theatre

What time is the box office open at The Chicago Theatre?

Noon to 6pm, Monday to Friday, and closed at weekends. On any event day it stays open until an hour after the show starts, and for a Saturday or Sunday event it opens two hours before doors. It also opens the moment a new show goes on sale, weekend or not. Bring a card — the window takes card or mobile pay only.

Which 'L' stop is closest to The Chicago Theatre?

State/Lake, served by the Brown, Green, Pink, Orange and Purple Line trains. Off the Red Line, exit at Lake. From the Blue Line, get out at Washington and walk one block east then a block and a half north up State Street. Metra's South Shore Line leaves you at Millennium Station, two blocks east.

Where is the entrance to The Chicago Theatre?

Straight under the famous marquee, on State Street between Lake Street and Benton Place. There is a second entrance round the south side of the building on Benton Place, and that is the one the theatre points guests with accessibility needs towards. Both are accessible.

Can I take a bag into The Chicago Theatre?

Yes, and it does not have to be clear — but anything larger than 22 by 14 by 9 inches has to be checked. There is a coat check in the main lobby that takes bags, coats and strollers for a small fee.

Does The Chicago Theatre take cash?

No — it is cashless from the box office to the bar to the merch stand. Card, Google Pay and Apple Pay only. If you turn up with notes there is a reverse ATM inside that converts them onto a debit card.

What does a 'device free' show at The Chicago Theatre mean?

Your phone goes into a locked Yondr pouch that you keep hold of all night, with unlocking stations dotted about if you genuinely need it. Smart watches, cameras, tablets, laptops and Bluetooth headphones are out too, so print your ticket at home. Only some artists ask for it — the event page says so plainly if yours is one.

How old is The Chicago Theatre?

It opened on 26 October 1921 and has been running ever since. The French Baroque design, the ornate plasterwork and the grand chandelier all date from then, and backstage the walls carry signatures left by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Dolly Parton — you can see them on the venue's own hour-long tour, though not on concert days.
