Glasgow Royal Concert Hall stands at the junction of Buchanan Street, Sauchiehall Street and the former Parliamentary Road, and forms part of a complex that includes the Buchanan Galleries. It opened in 1990, for Glasgow's year as European City of Culture, and was formally opened that October by the Princess Royal; the Scottish National Orchestra gave the first performance. Its Main Auditorium seats 2,475, with a 500-capacity Strathclyde Suite and smaller foyer spaces alongside it, and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra's own 600-seat hall is entered from Killermont Street. The hall is owned by Glasgow City Council and run by Glasgow Life, books pop and rock as well as classical, and is the main venue for Celtic Connections. Tony Hadley is the original voice of Spandau Ballet, whose True and Gold remain new-romantic pop's gold standard, now touring solo with full band.
