A 1,500-capacity room on Whitworth Street West, and still 'the Ritz' to everyone in Manchester. Its sprung dance floor is the bit people remember — the whole room moves with a full house. The Orb are a British electronic group formed in London in 1988 around Alex Paterson, pioneers of ambient house whose sprawling early tracks and the 1991 album The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld helped define post-acid-house chill-out music.
