A Grade II-listed live venue at 568–578 Christchurch Road in Bournemouth, Dorset, opened in 1895 as the Grand Pavilion Theatre. Renamed the Boscombe Grand, then the Boscombe Hippodrome for over 50 years, and later The Royal Ballrooms, it hosted Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie and more through the 1960s and early 70s, and remains a live entertainment room. The Orb are a British electronic group formed in London in 1988 around Alex Paterson, pioneers of ambient house whose sprawling early tracks and the 1991 album The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld helped define post-acid-house chill-out music.
