A West End theatre on the Strand in the City of Westminster, central London, and a receiving house that has specialised in comedy and musical theatre. It was founded in 1806 as the Sans Pareil by the merchant John Scott and his daughter Jane, and took its present name on 18 October 1819 from the Adelphi Buildings opposite. The building standing today is the fourth on the site: it opened on 3 December 1930, redesigned in the Art Deco style by Ernest Schaufelberg, and was Grade II listed on 1 December 1987. The Comedy about Spies is a play by Henry Lewis and Henry Shields of Mischief Theatre Company.
