Bill Graham's psychedelic ballroom, the epicentre of 1960s San Francisco where the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix defined an era. The chandeliers, apple barrels and poster tradition survive. My Morning Jacket formed in Louisville, Kentucky in 1998 around the singer-songwriter Jim James, and the line-up has long been James on vocals and guitar with Tom Blankenship on bass, Patrick Hallahan on drums, Carl Broemel on guitar and Bo Koster on keyboards.
