My Morning Jacket formed in Louisville, Kentucky in 1998 around the singer-songwriter Jim James, and the line-up has long been James on vocals and guitar with Tom Blankenship on bass, Patrick Hallahan on drums, Carl Broemel on guitar and Bo Koster on keyboards. The sound is rooted in rock and country and given to the experimental and the psychedelic, and the following was built on the live shows. The Tennessee Fire found them an audience in Europe in 1999; At Dawn brought a large one at home in 2001; Z, in 2005, was the critical breakthrough. Their tenth album, Is, arrived in 2025.
