Phoenix's largest outdoor concert venue, opened on 9 November 1990 with Billy Joel as its inaugural performer. It seats 8,106 under the pavilion roof plus another 12,000 on the hillside lawn, for a total topping 20,000. Known previously as Desert Sky Pavilion and Ak-Chin Pavilion, its concert season runs April through October. Mötley Crüe are the Sunset Strip's definitive glam-metal band, formed in Los Angeles in 1981 by Nikki Sixx, Tommy Lee, Vince Neil and Mick Mars.
