The Echo is an intimate indie and alternative music venue at 1822 West Sunset Boulevard in the Echo Park neighbourhood of Los Angeles, opened in 2001 and run by Spaceland Presents. Together with its larger downstairs room, the Echoplex, it has long been a launchpad for the city's independent bands. Man/Woman/Chainsaw started with Billy Ward and Vera Leppänen making music together at fourteen, at school, and settled into its six-piece shape in 2023 — two guitars, piano, bass, drums and Clio Starwood on violin, which is the part that gives the London band its edge.
