Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden hosts the Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts — Cape Town's beloved outdoor concert series, held on the garden's sloping lawn stage on Sunday evenings from late November through early April. Gates typically open mid-afternoon for picnics; the music starts as the sun drops behind Table Mountain. Past seasons have featured Mi Casa, Karen Zoid, Francois van Coke, The Kiffness, Mango Groove, Goldfish, Freshlyground and Jeremy Loops. Tickets sell exclusively through Webtickets, and headline Sundays routinely sell out. The 2026/27 line-up is usually announced around September. Live is an American rock band from York, Pennsylvania, and one of the biggest alternative-rock acts of the 1990s.

How much does it cost to get into Kirstenbosch?
For 2026-2027: R110 for South African residents and SADC nationals aged 18 and over with ID, R150 for other African nationals, R270 for everyone else, R60 for students at a South African institution, R40 for children aged 6 to 17 and free under 6. South African residents over 60 get in free on Tuesdays except public holidays. Cash is no longer accepted at all — buy online through Webtickets.

Every day, 08h00 to 19h00 in summer (September to March) and 08h00 to 18h00 in winter (April to August). The Conservatory keeps its own hours, 09h00 to 17h00 daily. For anything concert-related the Garden has a dedicated line on 021 799 8620.
Can you take chairs to a Kirstenbosch concert?
No. Kirstenbosch does not allow chairs, tables, umbrellas, tents or any other garden furniture into the Garden — a blanket on the grass is the whole idea. Picnics are welcome and braais are not, hampers and takeaways are sold at the Tea Room and Moyo, and because it is a no-bins Garden you take your rubbish home with you.

Webtickets, and nowhere else online — SANBI names it as the only online ticketing partner for the concerts and says it cannot guarantee that tickets bought from anyone else will be valid. You can also buy at the Kirstenbosch gate.
Is there parking at Kirstenbosch?
Yes, and it is free — at Gates 1, 2 and 3. The Garden is 13 km from central Cape Town, signposted from the M3 and then Rhodes Drive. If you would rather not drive, the City Sightseeing hop-on hop-off bus stops at the Visitors' Centre by Gate 1, roughly every 20 minutes in summer from about 09:50 until 16:20.
Is the Kirstenbosch concert lawn wheelchair accessible?
Partly, and the Garden is honest about it: the entrance gates, restaurants, shops and venues are all accessible, but Kirstenbosch sits on a steep slope and SANBI specifically lists the concert area among the places where a wheelchair user will need help. There are accessible parking bays and stop-and-drop zones at Gates 1 and 2, and a stop-and-drop at Gate 3.
