Exeter Phoenix is a multi-arts venue and registered charity in central Exeter, Devon, presenting live music, theatre, cinema, comedy, dance and contemporary art across hundreds of events a year, alongside a creative hub that supports emerging artists. Kristin Hersh was given a guitar at nine and had talked her best friend Tanya Donelly into starting a band by fourteen; Throwing Muses followed in 1981, while both were still at high school in Newport.
