A 1928 movie palace at Flatbush and DeKalb that put on jazz, blues and early rock and roll, closed in 1962, and spent the next six decades as Long Island University's basketball court. Restoration began in 2017 and it reopened as a venue in 2024. Kelela Mizanekristos made her debut in the music industry with the 2013 mixtape Cut 4 Me.
