An outdoor events pavilion set in Manchester's Castlefield conservation area, reinvigorated in 1993 to designs led by DEGW Architects, with a striking semi-cantilever tensile roof by Rudi Enos that folds lighting and sound into its framework. It opened with Ian Brown headlining New Year's Eve 1999 and has since hosted New Order, Bloc Party, Noel Gallagher and The Courteeners alongside food festivals. Johnny Marr is an English guitarist and songwriter, born in Manchester in 1963, best known as co-founder, guitarist and co-writer of The Smiths from 1982 to 1987.
