Hovvdy

The details, in daylight

Hovvdy played MOTH Club in London on 29 August 2026, with Esme Emerson in support. This show has already taken place — see Hovvdy's page on KeenToGo for their upcoming dates.

MOTH Club is a music venue in Hackney, London, that opened in August 2015 in the Old Trades Hall on Valette Street. It takes its name from the Memorable Order of Tin Hats, for whom the building was the Hackney headquarters when it was the General Browning pub. The room is programmed and produced by LNZRT, and has hosted a number of secret gigs: Lady Gaga played there in September 2016 and Suede in September 2022, billed as Crushed Kid. Hovvdy are the Austin duo of Charlie Martin and Will Taylor, whose soft-focus 'pillowcore' has grown into some of indie's warmest songwriting.

Asked about the venue

About MOTH Club

How do I get to MOTH Club?

Hackney Central is the nearest station — step-free, and a seven-minute walk to the Old Trades Hall on Valette Street. Buses 30, 38, 55, 56, 242 and 277 all stop nearby.

Is MOTH Club wheelchair accessible?

Partly. There is one raised step at the front door and level access once you are inside, and a step-free side entrance the team will open if you email access@mothclub.co.uk with your arrival time. There is no accessible toilet in the building, so MOTH has arrangements with the Hackney Empire and the nearby Wetherspoon. Booths near the stage can be reserved if standing is hard.

Is MOTH Club closing down?

No — it is open and programming as normal. MOTH is campaigning against two separate planning applications to Hackney Council for flats on Morning Lane, one of which would put balconies over its smoking area and the back of its stage wall. The building has been a club since 1972 and the venue links the petition from its own homepage.
