A contemporary open-air amphitheatre in Alpharetta, in Atlanta's northern suburbs, opened in 2008 with a performance by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Formerly the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park (and later simply Verizon Amphitheatre) before Ameris Bank took the naming rights in 2018, it mainly hosts popular-music artists, comedians and themed symphony concerts. Babymetal formed in Tokyo in 2010 as a sub-unit of the idol group Sakura Gakuin, built on the idea of fusing heavy metal with the Japanese idol genre, and became an independent act in 2013.
