O2 Academy2 Birmingham is the mid-sized, 600-capacity standing room within the O2 Academy Birmingham complex on Horsefair, Bristol Street, in the city centre. It hosts club nights and rising touring acts a tier below the venue's roughly 3,000-capacity main hall. Arkells are named after Arkell Street in the Westdale neighbourhood of Hamilton, where the original five lived and practised near McMaster University — Max Kerman met Mike DeAngelis at a Welcome Week event, the two of them discovering they had identical taste in music.
